How to Cook Chickpeas in your Crockpot

We all know that buying things in a can is convenient but not necessarily the best decision.

I have always wanted to try to cook dried beans but have been discouraged because of the time it takes to do so.  Not anymore! I didn't realize just how easy this method was until I tried it.  Lesson learned: don't be afraid to try new things in the kitchen!
 
How to Cook Chickpeas in your Crockpot

What you will need

1- 14oz bag of dried chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
7 cups of water
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
crockpot
Directions

Start bypouring the dry beans in a strainer, sort through them and discard any "bad beans".
Next, place the water, chickpeas, and baking soda in a the crockpot. Cover and cook on high heat for 4 hours, or low heat for 7 to 8 hours, or until tender. 
Drain and serve immediately, or use in desired dish.   
Remember, because they were not preserved in a can they are unseasoned, use in a dish or season to your liking before serving.

Chickpeas freeze very well, simply place them in a large freezer zip-top bag and lay it flat in your freezer, use within 3-4 months.  

You can also refrigerate them in a tupperware container, use within 3-5 days.

When you want to learn how to cook, you should definitely put your fear aside and just do the things you in the kitchen for every mistake, there is a lesson that will build you up at the end of the day. By the way, thank you for sharing this chickpeas recipe. I never encountered it. But I am now curious to have a taste of it.
